Finnegan Recognized as a Top Firm for Minority Attorneys

May 20, 2015

Law360

In its first ever list of “100 Best Law Firms for Minority Attorneys,” Law360 ranked Finnegan as a top firm for racial minorities. The ranking is based on the firm’s minority representation at the partner and nonpartner levels, as well as the firm’s total number of minority attorneys. Finnegan exceeded the overall average of 14 percent minority attorneys among U.S. law firms. Additionally, the firm was recognized as one of the “50 Best Law Firms for Minority Partners,” exceeding the overall average of 7 percent minority partners among U.S. law firms.

Law360 also pointed out that IP boutiques are attracting higher percentages of Asian American attorneys in comparison to larger firms, and ranked Finnegan #6 on its 25 Law Best Firms for Asian American Attorneys list. Law360 interviewed Finnegan Partner-in-Charge of Diversity Sanya Sukduang, who attributes the firm’s high percentage of Asian American attorneys to its global IP practice and the need for an equally diverse group of attorneys. He noted that the firm seeks attorneys with technical degrees and recruits heavily in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields, which tend to have a higher percentage of Asian Americans. Finnegan Chief Recruitment & Professional Development Officer Officer Tim Henderson also stated that the firm is committed to mentoring minority associates in a way that helps advance their careers, with many Asian American attorneys at the firm being promoted to partner and management levels.
