Finnegan Recognized Among the “Best Law Firms for Women and Diversity” by Seramount

Seramount

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 29, 2024

WASHINGTON, DC— Seramount once again listed Finnegan among the Best Law Firms for Women and Diversity. The list recognizes law firms’ excellence in recruiting, promoting, retaining and developing women attorneys and attorneys from underrepresented groups, including LGBTQ+ lawyers and lawyers of color.

Finnegan achieved strong rankings in several key categories and was ranked #1 in DEI Accountability and in Paid Time Off. The firm achieved top 10 rankings in People of Color Compensation and Leadership and People of Color Demographics, which resulted in a #4 overall ranking in the Representation of People of Color category.

The recognition reflects Finnegan’s history of investment in women attorneys, lawyers of color and LGBT lawyers. In addition to its long-running affinity groups and initiatives, including Finnegan FORWARD (Focused on Raising Women’s Advancement, Representation, and Development), the Corporate Mentorship Program, and the Diverse Attorney Sponsorship Program, the firm has introduced new initiatives aimed at increasing diversity within the firm and the wider IP profession. Notable examples include Finnegan IP University, a free program aimed at introducing undergraduate and graduate STEM programs from diverse backgrounds to career opportunities in IP Law; the Finnegan IP Summit, an initiative to increase the number of diverse students from historically underrepresented communities to pursue careers in IP law; and the Vision Summit, a multi-day conference which provides a space for underrepresented communities to authentically and candidly discuss issues in retaining and advancing diverse talent. The firm adopted the Mansfield Rule, which pledges that a broad pool of talent, including historically underrepresented groups such as women lawyers, underrepresented racial and ethnic lawyers, LGBTQ+ lawyers, and lawyers with disabilities, make up at least 30 percent of candidates for leadership positions and career advancement opportunities. In 2023, Finnegan received Mansfield 6.0 plus certification, signifying our success in cultivating diverse leadership.

“Our intentional work cultivating an inclusive environment is one of the many things that makes Finnegan a special place,” said Esther Lim, Partner and Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer. “We are thrilled that Seramount continues to recognize our efforts to champion women and diversity. Our leadership has long made DEI a key pillar of building our excellent talent pool, and awards like these reaffirm our commitment and celebrate our successes.”

Seramount’s 2024 Best Law Firms for Women & Diversity application included more than 300 questions about attorney demographics at different levels, flexibility, paid time off and parental leaves, and development and retention of women and people of color as well as those from other underrepresented groups. Questions about family-friendly benefits and mentoring and sponsorship participation are also included.
