Press Release

Finnegan Partner Esther Lim Sworn in as 47th President of the D.C. Bar

June 15, 2018

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 15, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC—On June 12, 2018, Esther Lim received the gavel of leadership as she was sworn in as 47th president of the D.C. Bar at the organization’s Celebration of Leadership awards dinner. Esther is the first Korean American woman to serve as a state bar president, and one of only a handful of Asian Pacific American state bar presidents in the continental United States.

Esther has more than twenty years of experience in patent law, including litigation and counseling. She served as the founding managing partner of Finnegan’s Shanghai office and has been recognized by Managing Intellectual Property as a top woman attorney in IP law.

As a dedicated D.C. Bar member, Esther served on the Board of Governors, the Nominations Committee, and the Global Legal Practice Task Force. She has held leadership positions in many organizations, including the American Bar Association; Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs; Asian Pacific American Bar Association of the Greater Washington, D.C. Area; and National Asian Pacific American Bar Association.

Esther’s commitment to pro bono work is reflected through her representation of clients in landlord/tenant cases, veteran’s appeals, and special education matters. She was named to the 2017 D.C. Bar Capital Pro Bono High Honor Roll. During her speech at the D.C. Bar awards dinner, Esther said, “Tonight, as we celebrate the leadership of our Bar, let us reaffirm our commitment to equal access to the law and equal justice under the law.”
