Finnegan Named to USO-Metro’s Circle of Stars

October 26, 2016

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 26, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC—On October 27, 2016, Finnegan will be honored with the Circle of Stars award by the United Service Organizations (USO) of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore, at the nonprofit’s 13th annual Stars & Stripes Night. The event benefits the USO’s vital programs in support of the area’s service members and their families, and also honors the organization’s top supporters who provide funding and in-kind donations. Finnegan has supported the USO since 2011, and is proud to sponsor the USO International Gateway Lounge at Baltimore Washington International Airport, the most active airport for those in the U.S. Armed Forces traveling to and from duty stations in Europe, Southwest Asia, and the United States.

In addition to supporting the USO, Finnegan has one of the most, if not the most, extensive pro bono programs serving the needs of veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces. Nearly 90 attorneys and staff participate in Finnegan’s pro bono program serving disabled military veterans. The program focuses on appeals in the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims (CAVC) and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC). Each year, the firm reviews approximately 300 pre-screened Board of Veterans’ Appeals (BVA) decisions for further action. Since the program commenced in July 2008, the firm has handled approximately 750 appeals to the CAVC or CAFC, with more than 80 appeals handled in 2015.

The Circle of Stars VIP reception takes place on October 27, 2016, at 6:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency in Tysons Corner, VA. The Stars & Stripes Night event will immediately follow and brings together USO-Metro supporters, members of the business community, wounded heroes from area military hospitals and local celebrities, highlighting the critical value of the supporters for the organization.
