Finnegan Named One of the "Best Law Firms for Women and Diversity”

June 1, 2023

Seramount

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 1, 2023

WASHINGTON, DC—Finnegan is pleased to announce that Seramount named the firm on its list of 50 Best Law Firms for Women and Diversity. The list recognizes firms utilizing best practices in recruiting, retaining, promoting, and developing women lawyers and lawyers from underrepresented groups, including people of color. Finnegan ranked #2 overall for Representation of People of Color and #1 in the subcategory of People of Color Compensation and Leadership.

Recruitment and retention are top priorities at Finnegan, ensuring that diverse attorneys see a path at the firm to partnership and management positions. In addition to the firm’s various internal programs, such as the Corporate Mentorship Program, Summer Associate Corporate Partnership Program, and Diverse Attorney Sponsorship Program, Finnegan actively participates in various external initiatives targeting the recruitment, retention, and promotion of diverse attorneys. This is reflected the firm’s adoption of the Mansfield Rule, which pledges that women, minorities, and LGBTQ+ attorneys will make up at least 30 percent of candidates for leadership positions. Currently, 58 percent of the firm’s Management & Compensation Committees are diverse and 80 percent of the firm’s Partnership Admission/Elevation Review Committee members are diverse. These appointments bring a richness of experience and perspective that have direct impact on compensation and promotion decision-making.

“Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is an integral part of Finnegan’s culture,” said Scott Burwell, Finnegan’s Partner-in-Charge of DEI. “We take pride in establishing and facilitating efforts that provide an inclusive workplace environment. It’s rewarding to see the outcomes of our efforts, which are a direct result of firm leadership’s commitment to DEI.”

Seramount’s 2023 Best Law Firms for Women & Diversity application included more than 300 questions about attorney demographics at different levels, flexibility, paid time off and parental leaves, and development and retention of women and people of color as well as those from other underrepresented groups. Questions about family-friendly benefits and mentoring and sponsorship participation are also included.
