Yinan Liu, Ph.D., focuses on inter partes review (IPR) proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), litigation in district courts, investigations before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), and appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Yinan's practice includes patent prosecution, strategic client counseling, and portfolio development.
Yinan leverages her extensive experience across an array of technical areas, including WiFi, LTE/4G/5G telecommunications, computer networks, artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, secure communication and encryption, haptic feedback technology, mobile applications, digital rights management, medical devices, semiconductors, and radio frequency (RF) technologies. Her experience related to standard essential patents (SEPs) in the wireless local-area network (WLAN) and telecommunications field involves analyzing secure sockets layer (SSL) and transport layer security (TLS) protocols; the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11, 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP); and high efficiency video coding (HEVC) documents and standards.
While in law school, Yinan was an editor for the Harvard Journal of Law & Technology and held a leadership role in Harvard Law School's Blockchain and Fintech Initiative (HLSBFI). Her doctorate dissertation work focused on signal processing, phase array antenna and RF design for medical devices. During her undergraduate studies, Yinan worked as a research assistant in a wireless communication lab and interned with the computer graphics group of world-class research lab in China.
Yinan has been recognized on the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court's Pro Bono Honor Roll and on the Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll.
