Victoria Randall is a chartered UK patent attorney and a European patent attorney. With a background in biomedical sciences, she works with a diverse portfolio of clients, including global pharmaceuticals and startup biotechnology companies. Victoria is the recipient of the "IP Rising Star" Award 2023 from Women in Business Law EMEA.
Victoria entered the patent profession in 2009 and joins Finnegan having previously worked for two large UK firms and a boutique firm. She has acquired extensive experience in a broad range of life sciences subject matter. Her areas of interest include personal medicine, antibody technologies, antisense therapeutics, blood products, vaccines, gene manipulation, and stem cell culture methods.
Victoria enjoys all aspects of prosecution, including drafting, filing, examination, and grant procedures. She has experience with oppositions and appeals, representing both patentee and opponent at Oral Proceedings before the European Patent Office (EPO). She has managed large, complex portfolios protecting high-value pharmaceuticals. Victoria has experience prosecuting supplementary protection certificates and has been involved in litigation proceedings before the UK High Court.
Victoria has a first class degree in Biomedical Sciences from The University of Sheffield and a Ph.D. from University College London. She conducted research at the Institute of Child Health at Great Ormond Street Hospital, where she focused on the genetic interactions underlying two congenital syndromes.
Finnegan is lead and preferred IP transactions counsel for one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, handling more than 50 diligence projects each year, including all IP and related transactional aspects of the matters. The transactions span the full gamut of technologies from small molecule through biologics such as antibodies, oligonucleotides, and gene therapies. Finnegan also provides extensive assistance with post-deal integration procedures and subsequent global prosecution and portfolio strategy, ensuring a seamless transition of IP assets to the company and maximum value from acquired IP.
