Mingji drafts inter partes review (IPR) petitions and ex parte reexamination requests. She prepares claim construction briefs; conducts invalidity, infringement/non-infringement, and standard essentiality analysis; and works with experts in district court cases and ITC investigations. She has extensive experience in patent application drafting and prosecution directed to telecommunications, semiconductor processing and devices, antenna designs, video compression, acoustic signal processing, solar cells, and electric vehicles. Mingji's experience extends to helping companies obtain 5G standard essential patents (SEPs).
Prior to joining Finnegan, Mingji gained significant patent experience working at intellectual property law firms as a student associate and patent agent. Her work involved patent prosecution and prior art search and analysis to determine patentability, validity/invalidity, freedom-to-operate, and infringement.
Before beginning her career in intellectual property, Mingji completed graduate research related to the characterization of electrical and magnetic properties of superconductor tunneling junction devices, and the deposition of amorphous semiconducting thin films and characterization of their electrical and optical properties. Her research extended to biomembrane and protein fusion studies using atomic force microscopy. She was awarded an American Heart Association predoctoral fellowship, and she received a Best Thesis Award in Electrical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati.
