Victoria Barker, Ph.D., is a Chartered UK and European patent attorney, as well as a Unified Patent Court (UPC) representative. Her practice spans the full life cycle of a patent—from initial white space analysis, drafting, and filing applications, through global prosecution strategy and beyond to European Patent Office (EPO) opposition and appeal procedures. Victoria is well-versed in a wide variety of chemical technologies, including pharmaceutical products, batteries, agrochemicals, nutraceuticals, inks, fibers, and catalysis.
In addition to her European patent work, Victoria works on global patent prosecution matters in numerous jurisdictions such as China, Japan and Korea. She has also assisted in document discovery for high-profile US litigation matters. Victoria’s portfolio spans all chemical technologies for clients of all sizes and budget. She works with small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as universities and large multinationals, drawing on her experience to carefully tailor portfolio management strategies to match the business needs.
Before entering the intellectual property profession, Victoria completed at the University of Oxford a DPhil in carbohydrate chemistry and diabetes research. She published 30 research papers, many of which related to x-ray crystallography. Her continued interest in this field, specifically the various challenges faced by applicants trying to obtain patent protection for specific polymorphs of drug molecules, led Victoria to work as a post-doctoral researcher at Imperial College London, where she focused on neglected tropical diseases.
