Jeanette Roorda focuses on complex patent and trade secret litigation related to the pharmaceutical and chemical fields. She participates in litigation proceedings at the district court level, in appeals to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and in Section 337 proceedings before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). Jeanette has experience representing pharmaceutical patent holders in Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) and 505(b)(2) Application litigations arising under the Hatch-Waxman Act as well as biosimilar litigations arising under the Biologics Price Competition and Innovation Act (BPCIA).
Jeanette's experience covers the several stages of litigation. At the district court level, she is involved with pre-litigation tasks, including patent analysis, jurisdiction analysis, jurisdiction support identification, ANDA paragraph IV notice letter analysis, legal and scientific issue research, and complaint drafting. She participates in the initiation of proceedings by working with local counsel in multiple jurisdictions, including Delaware, New Jersey, West Virginia, New York, California, Colorado, Illinois, and North Carolina, to file complaints and supporting documents. Jeanette assists in trial preparation, including conducting discovery, validity analyses, claim construction, pretrial brief drafting, legal research, and motion practice. She also assists in preparation for, defending, and taking fact and expert witness depositions. During trial, Jeanette provides support, including expert witness preparation and daily issue analysis, and conducts post-trial tasks, including post-trial brief drafting and reviewing the work of the litigation support team. At the Federal Circuit level, Jeanette assists with appellate brief drafting as well as legal and scientific issue research.
In addition to her intellectual property practice, Jeanette has served as an adjunct professor at Howard University School of Law, teaching patent policy and patent law courses. She has also been listed on the D.C. Bar's Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll for her pro bono work.
While in law school, Jeanette was a teaching assistant for Legal Writing and Appellate Advocacy. Before beginning her legal career, Jeanette worked as a brewing group manager for Anheuser-Busch, Inc., where she monitored the brewing process from the end of fermentation through a chill-proofing process, followed by filtration and release to packaging. She oversaw the removal of yeast and unstable protein materials, and she worked with a variety of technologies, such as filtration systems, industrial pumps, and inline instrumentation monitoring, all to ensure product quality standards, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) compliance, and production quota specifications were met.
