Dan Jordan focuses on patent litigation and prosecution across the mechanical and electrical arts. He represents clients before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), various district courts, and the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). Dan's practice encompasses numerous technical fields, including computer hardware and software, automotive electronics, medical devices, internet services, and other mechanical and electrical arts. He also has extensive experience in all stages of patent litigation, including motion practice, development of invalidity and infringement positions, fact and expert discovery, development of claim construction positions, arguing Markman hearings, trial, and post-trial briefing, both at the ITC and district courts. Additionally, Dan has significant experience in post grant review proceedings at the PTAB, having prepared and defended against numerous inter partes review (IPR) petitions, typically alongside co-pending district court litigation.
Dan drafts and prosecutes patent applications for a range of technologies, including hydraulic systems, water treatment, computer networks, cybersecurity, financial services and business systems, and data analysis.
Prior to joining Finnegan, Dan spent a decade in the construction industry, focusing on the design and construction of heavy civil infrastructure, utility projects, and commercial facilities. He worked extensively with geotextile fabrics, post-tensioning systems, and various road and bridge technologies. Dan's utility experience includes construction of electrical transmission and distribution systems, communications infrastructure, water and wastewater treatment technologies, and a waste-to-energy plant powered by anaerobic digestors. He built several commercial facilities and is well-versed in steel structural systems, post-tensioning reinforced concrete technologies, and building energy management systems.
Dan is passionate about pro-bono work. He interned with the National Veterans Legal Services Program (NVLSP), an organization dedicated to ensuring disabled veterans receive military service benefits to which they are entitled. He continues to support NVLSP in his private practice by representing veterans before the Army and Navy Discharge Review Boards and the Board for the Correction of Military Records.
