Daniel's experience serving as lead counsel as well as supervising numerous teams in resolving IP disputes crosses all phases of IP litigation, from pre-suit investigations through trial and appeal. He manages fact and expert discovery, drafts and argues motions and legal briefs in court, examines fact and expert witnesses in jury and bench trials, and handles pre-trial and post-trial proceedings. Daniel also prepares and briefs appellate arguments before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and represents clients in post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
In his strategic counseling practice, Daniel assists clients in developing global IP portfolios and analyzing IP-related risks and opportunities. He evaluates competitor products and patents and prepares infringement, validity, freedom-to-operate, and patentability opinions. Daniel has considerable experience conducting due diligence investigations during potential investment and acquisition opportunities; drafting and advising on licensing agreements; and managing large global patent portfolios.
Prior to joining Finnegan, Daniel worked under the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the Johns Hopkins University, where he helped develop a microcapsule-containing stent for cellular therapy and studied scaffold technologies involving protein hydrogels.
