Seminar

Patent Monetization

November 11, 2014

Hsinchu, Taiwan

Finnegan’s Fei Han Foreign Legal Affairs Law Firm invites you to attend the next event of its program series. This afternoon program features two Finnegan partners, who will discuss generating revenue from your IP assets.

More companies today are reviewing their IP portfolios and finding that they possess significant IP assets. And they wish to generate revenue from those assets, just as they do with other corporate assets. This is a relatively new process for many corporate legal departments, as they typically have not viewed their IP assets as revenue drivers. Using examples from past experience, we will discuss ways that corporate IP assets can be deployed to add to the bottom line of the asset owner, including techniques we have seen work, and a few that we have seen not work.

Please join us as we discuss:

I. Understanding and strategically developing the scope of your IP portfolio and its significance in your industry

        a. Who are the main competitors in your industry?
        b. How IP-centric is your industry?
        c. Does your IP give you product advantages in key markets?
        d. What are the patent landscapes regarding your products and your IP assets?
        e. What steps can be taken to strategically develop the portfolio?

II. Developing a strategy that is:
        a. Consistent with corporate goals
        b. Based on your current IP posture
        c. Consistent with the reality of IP valuation and current legal landscapes

III. Implementing your IP development and monetization strategy
        a. Litigation based monetization
        b. Selling a large portfolio
        c. Licensing a large portfolio
        d. Private auction of smaller portfolios
        e. Licensing of smaller portfolios
        f. Patent pooling arrangements
        g. Challenges which arise in IP monetization programs
