Seminar

Maximizing Investments, Controlling Costs, and Capturing Value: Building Trademark Portfolios to Meet Current and Future Business and Legal Objectives

December 11, 2015

Taipei, Taiwan

Global Brands Management Association (GBMA)

How can you build and manage your company’s trademark portfolio so that it better serves your company’s budget, legal needs, business objectives, and product segment? Finnegan partners Mark Sommers and Danny Awdeh have managed some of the world’s most well-known brands. In this seminar, they will provide practical advice for maximizing the reach of your company’s trademark assets while avoiding long-term inefficiencies and unnecessary costs. Among other things, they will address how to design and implement short and long-term filing strategies customized to a brand’s projected growth and value. They will also discuss how effective clearance and filing strategies can help avoid third-party disputes and reduce legal expenses. They will further cover some of the more intriguing and strategically valuable non-traditional trademark and trade dress rights that can be acquired and protected in the U.S. marketplace. And finally, they will discuss the requirements of service of process on Taiwan companies regarding U.S. lawsuits, which were recently clarified pursuant to a case they handled for a respected Taiwan company.
