Workshop

2017 U.S. Patent Law Boot Camp: From Patentability to Profitability

October 20, 2017

Taipei, Taiwan

Finnegan cordially invites you to attend an exclusive advanced seminar for biotech and pharmaceutical companies interested in intellectual property law issues.

This program will provide important updates as to legal principles of U.S. patent law and strategies for maximizing your success in obtaining, defending, and licensing patents in the life sciences industry.

Questions will be taken from participants and discussed by the speakers. Lunch will be provided.

Finnegan partners will present on the following topics:

  1. Understanding Current Trends in the Law of Obviousness
Obviousness is a frequent patentability issue for patent applications and issued patents. This session will explore recent developments in the law of obviousness and discuss strategies to help overcome obviousness challenges.

  2. IPR Practice Before the PTAB
Biotech and pharma patents are increasingly challenged in Inter Partes Reviews (IPRs) before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) at the USPTO. This session will discuss IPR filing statistics, preliminary response strategies, expert strategies, and evidentiary issues.

  3. Licensing Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Technology
This session will begin with a brief introduction to negotiating technology licenses. Based on the principles discussed and the licensing problem introduced, attendees will then be assigned to small working groups to develop a licensing strategy to effectuate the goals of their hypothetical company/organization. This will be followed by a discussion of the strategies the working groups would employ and the goals each group deemed most important.
