Technical Specialist
Finnegan is seeking Technical Specialists and/or Patent Agents with Artificial Intelligence (in particular natural language processing), machine learning, or semiconductor experience to draft and prosecute patent applications in our Reston office.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related degree required. USPTO registration number preferred. Previous work experience in Artificial Intelligence (in particular natural language processing), machine learning, or semiconductor is required.
Responsibilities of Technical Specialists/Patent Agents include: preparing patent applications for filing with the US Patent and Trademark Office; evaluating the underlying technology of inventions; opinion writing; client counseling; litigation support; and providing technical assistance on projects.
Our patent prosecution practice includes recognized experts and seasoned professionals with science and/or engineering backgrounds. Many hold advanced degrees in their technical fields and/or have worked in the industry.
We train our professionals to draft and prosecute patent applications strategically and with the clients’ interests and instructions always at the forefront. We strive to add value from the invention mining/invention disclosure stage by collaborating with the client’s scientific contributors to set boundaries and to define the scope of the developed invention. We also seek to effectively communicate the achievements of our clients’ inventions to the USPTO and convey the boundaries and advantages of the inventions during the patent prosecution process. We work on some of the most complex and high value matters for clients both large and small, with a deep bench of professionals and support staff.
