Law Clerk
Zylan Coleman applies a multidisciplinary perspective to intellectual property (IP) law, leveraging his foundation in computer science and experience in patent litigation and prosecution. His background includes a judicial internship as well as clinical advocacy, which informs his approach to complex legal and technical matters.
Zylan is involved in patent litigation and prosecution matters related to electrical and software technologies. His work includes drafting memoranda on post-grant proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO); preparing claim construction analyses for federal courts; and reviewing patent portfolios for litigation and licensing strategy.
Zylan has extensive technical experience with computer programming tools, such as C++, Java, and HTML, among others. His legal training is complemented by leadership roles in student organizations and editorial positions with law journals. Zylan is actively engaged in pro bono advocacy.
Prior to joining the firm, Zylan served as a judicial intern at the Virginia Court of Appeals, researching and drafting bench memoranda and judicial opinions on appellate issues. He also participated in the Mississippi Innocence Project Clinic, conducting legal and factual research on wrongful conviction claims, including ineffective assistance of counsel and DNA evidence issues.
