Sarah Husslein, a partner in Finnegan’s London office, is a United Kingdom (UK) trade mark attorney and a French-qualified lawyer. She is qualified to practise in both the UK and the European Union. Sarah’s experience covers contentious and non-contentious trade mark, design and copyright matters. She specialises in managing worldwide intellectual property (IP) portfolios, conducting clearance programmes, handling contentious registry proceedings, and leading settlement discussions to resolve complex IP disputes.
Sarah has extensive experience in developing and implementing global brand protection strategies for companies operating in diverse industry sectors, including those in the automotive, dental device, hospitality, luxury goods, social media, and information technology spaces. Her work includes coordinating national and international trade mark clearance and filing programmes, managing worldwide IP portfolios, devising and implementing custom recordal strategies, managing enforcement actions across multiple jurisdictions, and working with local counsels on prosecution and litigation matters internationally. Sarah has been recognised as a “Rising Star” in the UK by Managing Intellectual Property (MIP) since 2022.
Sarah has a proven foundation in contentious trade mark proceedings and has represented clients in oppositions, cancellations, and appeals before the UK Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO), European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), and the EU General Court. She has experience representing clients at hearings and case management conferences at the UKIPO, and appearing before the Appointed Person. Sarah has successfully handled domain name disputes before the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and has experience before the Companies House Tribunal. She also assists with transactional matters, such as advising on and preparing agreements for the transfer of IP portfolios.
Prior to joining Finnegan, Sarah spent nearly ten years working for a full-service law firm in London with a renowned IP department, handling all aspects of trade mark and design protection, management, and enforcement. She gained additional experience across IP matters while working for a French IP law firm in Paris.
As a member of the Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys (CITMA), Sarah is involved in the mentoring programme run by the Institute and has volunteered at its free advice clinics for several years. She regularly writes case updates for the CITMA Review and the Entertainment Law Review. Sarah is a member of the French Association of Trade Mark and Design Law Practitioners (APRAM) and the International Trademark Association (INTA), where she is a member of the INTA Trademark Office Practices Committee.
