Biju Chandran, Ph.D., leverages more than a decade of legal experience, as well as deep technical expertise, to assist innovative companies develop and protect their intellectual property. His practice focuses on all aspects of patent prosecution and client counseling in the mechanical, electrical, and semiconductor technologies. Biju's distinct combination of skills and experience—as an engineer and an inventor, a former U.S. patent examiner, and now a patent attorney—enables him to effectively work with inventors, corporate counsel, and business leaders to develop and maximize intellectual property assets.
Over his legal career, Biju has prepared and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications across a wide range of technologies and prepared numerous legal opinions. He is also proficient in developing and executing post-grant review strategies in concert with concurrent litigation. He has particular experience in working with technologies related to electric vehicles (e.g., EV battery and charging systems, EV grid integration, power grid management to minimize demand and time-of-use charges, etc.), semiconductor devices and fabrication methods, automotive systems and components, and medical devices.
Before entering legal practice, Biju was a patent examiner in the semiconductor components group of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Previously he worked for nearly nine years at the technology development group of Intel Corporation in the development, fabrication, and validation of semiconductor packages. While at Intel, Biju co-invented over 20 U.S. patents, co-authored over 30 technical publications, and co-taught an advanced electronic packaging course at Arizona State University.
