In Rapid Litigation Management Ltd. v. CellzDirect, Inc., 827 F.3d 1042 (Fed. Cir. 2016), the CAFC held that a patent covering a method of preserving hepatocytes (liver cells) was directed to patent-eligible subject matter, reversing a district court judgment holding otherwise. The CAFC held that the claimed method was a new and useful laboratory technique not directed to a law of nature. Further discussion of the decision can be found on Finnegan’s Federal Circuit IP Blog.
