Naoki Yoshida handles a broad range of intellectual property (IP) matters, including litigation, patent portfolio management, IP due diligence, client counseling, licensing and negotiations, patent prosecution, and pre-litigation strategic counseling.

Naoki has significant experience in global IP issues involving multinational corporations. With his fluency in Japanese and appreciation for cultural differences, he frequently counsels clients on unique IP issues arising out of negotiations and disputes involving Japanese companies. Naoki has participated in proceedings in Japanese courts in connection with U.S. patent infringement litigation.

 

Naoki is a frequent lecturer on U.S. patent law for universities and professional organizations, including the Licensing Executives Society (LES), the Japan Patent Attorneys Association (JPAA), and the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI). He has taught U.S. Law at Waseda University, Keio University, and Osaka Institute of Technology Graduate School. He serves as adjunct faculty at Osaka Institute of Technology Graduate School on U.S. legal system.

 

In the course of his career, Naoki has received various recognitions. These include being named a Global Leader and for his contributions to the patent transactions field by Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) and Intellectual Asset Management's (IAM) Strategy 300, as well as recognition as a Top IP Strategist and being named one of the world’s 250 leading patent and technology licensing lawyers. He was featured as an IP Star in Japan by Managing Intellectual Property (MIP), and ranked among top Japan patent lawyers in Legal Media Group’s Guide to the World’s Leading Patent Law Practitioners since 2015. Other accolades include being named as one of the 50 Licensing Lawyers You Should Know by Asia IP, as a leading intellectual property lawyer by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific Japan, and as a litigation star by Benchmark Litigation.

 

His work with clients in Japan include representing a major Japanese semiconductor company in a licensing negotiation; a major Japanese automobile company in U.S. district court litigation that resulted in a favorable summary judgment decision; and a Fortune 500 company in a patent infringement suit involving HVAC technology that resulted in a favorable trial judgment.

 

Naoki is the former managing partner of Finnegan’s Tokyo, Japan office.
