Combining his tenure with the USPTO as an examiner and his time in private practice as a patent agent, Nate has extensive and diverse experience in turning an invention into a patent. He provides clients with strategic IP counseling, including portfolio management and drafting strategies. He focuses particularly on patent eligibility under 35 U.S.C. § 101, drafting, prosecuting, and appealing patent applications related to fintech, e-commerce, software, and business methods.
Nate's undergraduate and graduate studies focused on the development and commercialization of medical devices, giving him a broad understanding of medicine, electrical and computer engineering, and regulatory processes. He further developed his technical skills through the seven years he served as a vice-president and chief technology officer at medical device startup company CervoCheck, LLC, where he collaborated on developing a preterm labor monitor that could detect the onset of preterm birth and distinguish between Braxton-Hicks contractions and true labor.
Nate draws on insight gained through his unconventional career path to counsel clients about the challenges of running a startup as well as the importance of building an intellectual property portfolio and protecting their IP while working with university tech transfer offices or government agencies.
