Associate
While in law school, Hira worked as a summer associate at Finnegan, assisting with litigation before the International Trade Commission (ITC) and complex prosecution matters. She served as a judicial intern at the District of Columbia's Department of Employment Services Office of Administrative Hearings, where she gained invaluable experience attending hearings, discussing strategy with the administrative law judges in chambers, and drafting opinions.
In graduate school, Hira's research focused on the effects of the basement membrane, glycoprotein laminin, and its effects on matrix metalloproteinase2 (MMP2) during neuronal development. Specifically, she examined whether laminin-induced secretion of MMP2 was due to activation of the MMP2 enzyme or increased transcriptional activity of the MMP2 gene, at specified time-points during neuronal development. Hira also served as a teaching assistant for undergraduate classes on anatomy and physiology and developmental biology.
During Hira's undergraduate studies, she worked as a research assistant for the university's biology department. Her research focused on paleontology and included examining fossils of a juvenile of the Sauropelta species. When she was not in the laboratory helping to put together a picture of the past, Hira tutored students in Spanish while completing her Spanish minor.
Hira values giving back and helping those in need and incorporates pro bono work into her practice. She is involved in compassionate release, resentencing, and asylum cases.
