The National Law Journal
The International Trade Commission (ITC) recently appointed Judge Bryan Moore to serve as an administrative law judge (ALJ). Judge Moore will become the first African American to hold the position in the history of the ITC. The National Law Journal interviewed Finnegan partner Mareesa Frederick to discuss Judge Moore’s appointment.
Mareesa stated, “He will bring a unique and diverse point of view as he has worked in private practice litigating patent cases, worked in OUII [Office of Unfair Import Investigations] for many years, and worked as an APJ [administrative patent judge] at the PTO [U.S. Patent and Trademark Office]…He also has a background in electrical engineering (the majority of the investigations at the ITC).”
She added that in terms of diversifying the ranks of administrative law judges at the ITC, the decision “is of course monumental.”
