The International Trade Commission (ITC) cleared Finnegan client Toyota of allegations made by Intellectual Ventures accusing the automaker of violating federal import trade law. In 2017, Intellectual Ventures filed a complaint asking the ITC to issue exclusion and cease-and-desist orders to stop the entry of infringing auto parts into the country. The commission agreed with the administrative law judge’s initial determination finding that the products did not infringe and there was no violation of the law. Upon review, the ITC said Intellectual Ventures did not prove that Toyota and other auto companies violated federal import trade law, as they "failed to satisfy the domestic industry requirement." As a result, the ITC terminated the investigation.
