WASHINGTON, DC - The International Law Office (ILO) and Lexology announced today the winners of the 2013 Client Choice Awards. Finnegan partner and trademark practice group chair Douglas (Chip) A. Rettew won the District of Columbia award for Intellectual Property in the category of Trademarks.
Mr. Rettew focuses his practice on trademark, false advertising, and unfair competition litigation and disputes. He has significant experience protecting global brands, including the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), BlackBerry, Bridgestone Firestone, Capital One, the NFL Players Association, PNC Bank, Subaru, and Under Armour. In addition, he has first-chair trial experience; appellate experience, having authored briefs for various cases and argued before the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Federal, Fourth, and Eighth Circuits; and he has litigated oppositions, cancellations, and ex parte appeals before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The cases have involved a broad range of issues, including traditional trademarks, trade dress, design patents, false advertising, product disparagement, unfair competition, and domain names.
Since 2005, the ILO Client Choice Awards have surveyed senior corporate counsel to identify law firms and individual partners “that excel across the full spectrum of client service.” Winners are selected from more than 2,000 client assessments.
