On November 30, 2018 Finnegan secured a win from for client Sprint Communications, with the Federal Circuit upholding a district court's $140 million verdict in favor of Sprint. The Federal Circuit agreed with the district court in that Time Warner infringed five of Sprint's patents covering internet voice service technology. Despite Time Warner's argument that the trial had been prejudiced by a previous verdict in a Sprint case, the appellate court found that the district court properly instructed the jury that it could use the previous verdict as a data point since it is "relevant for some legitimate purpose."
