William O. Trousdell

William focuses on patent prosecution, licensing, and counseling. His practice includes drafting and prosecuting patents; preparing advisory opinions on patent infringement, validity, clearance and right-to-use; providing litigation support; and patent licensing and patent portfolio management. William's technical experience includes turbine engines, semiconductor design and manufacturing, manufacturing machinery and processes, off-road equipment, locomotives, vehicle drive train components, video game software and systems, locks, ink jet printers, photocopiers, digital cameras, digital image processing, medical devices, control systems, microfluidics, and fluid flow devices.

Before his career as a patent attorney, William was a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), examining patent applications relating to automatic transmission systems, planetary gearing, clutches, differentials, and other vehicle drive train components. Prior to becoming a patent examiner, William worked as a design engineer and a project engineer for a number of companies, including United Technologies Corporation (UTC), Rockwell International, and Eaton Corporation, where he designed and developed high energy laser weapon systems, nuclear power plant valves, and fluid control valves and systems.

At UTC, William was on the team responsible for designing and developing the high energy laser mirrors used successfully in prototypes for the Space Defense Initiative. He also worked at the Pratt & Whitney Aircraft division of UTC in the Design Repair Group on jet turbine engines in the F-100 family that powers the F-15 Eagle and the F-16 Falcon fighter jets.
