Associate
Tony(Aoliang) Zhi focuses on intellectual property (IP) litigation and counseling for clients navigating complex domestic and cross-border matters involving advanced technologies, particularly those related to electrical engineering. He brings experience in patent infringement, invalidity, and trade secret disputes across district court litigations, U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) investigations, and post-grant proceedings. Tony’s practice further extends to patent prosecution, IP risk assessments, and strategic portfolio counseling.
Tony has experience across a wide range of industries, including consumer electronics, semiconductors, telecommunications, medical devices, energy systems, and small home appliances. He has advised leading global and U.S.-based companies in patent infringement and invalidity disputes related to optical systems, memory semiconductors, chip manufacturing processes, chip testing devices, wireless technologies, and turbine generators. Tony’s experience includes supporting ITC investigations, conducting pre litigation assessments involving trade secrets and unfair competition, and advising on patent ownership and IP related contract disputes.
In addition to litigation, Tony focuses on patent prosecution and post grant proceedings. He has drafted patent applications, office action responses, and invalidity and non infringement opinion letters. Tony has supported inter partes review (IPR) proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and trademark opposition matters. He has also conducted IP due diligence for contemplated mergers and acquisitions, assessing portfolio strength, litigation exposure, and infringement risk. Tony is a Chinese-qualified patent agent and previously practiced patent law at a Chinese law firm.
Tony applies practical technical experience to complex technology-focused IP matters. His work in engineering included projects involving computer vision, facial recognition, sensor based robotics, embedded systems, and intelligent housing applications. This foundation helps him work closely with inventors, experts, and technical teams in sophisticated technology disputes.
Tony’s pro bono and public service experience includes family law, where he assisted parents in child custody matters, and a criminal law externship involving courtroom appearances through a prosecuting attorney’s office.
