Patent Agent
Tobias Koengeter, Ph.D., leverages his broad scientific expertise in organic, medicinal, organometallic, and polymer chemistry to support intellectual property (IP) matters across the pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturing sectors, focusing on U.S. and international utility patent prosecution.
Tobias advises clients across a range of IP issues, primarily related to patent prosecution in the chemical and life sciences sectors. His experience includes drafting and prosecuting applications for small molecule drugs, biopharmaceuticals, automated synthesis, and chemical manufacturing. Tobias offers strategic portfolio management and supports due diligence and freedom-to-operate (FTO) analyses across diverse industries. He manages U.S. patent prosecutions and oversees global patent strategies, delivering comprehensive guidance on portfolio development.
Prior to joining Finnegan, Tobias conducted doctoral research at Boston College, where his activities focused on the development of new strategies for stereoselective olefin metathesis, related mechanistic analysis, and applications to the preparation of complex natural products. He also gained early exposure to IP as an intern in the university’s technology transfer and licensing office, conducting prior art searches and preparing research summaries. As an undergraduate and master’s student, he studied organometallic chromophores and the conversion of renewable feedstocks into value-added chemicals. Tobias has coauthored several peer-reviewed publications and has extensive experience as a teaching assistant at the university level.
