Technical Specialist
Sameer Panghal applies his deep background in mechanical engineering, robotics, and embedded systems to intellectual property (IP) matters. His work focuses on the end-to-end development of complex mechanical and electromechanical systems in a variety of fields, including consumer electronics, aerospace technologies, and robotic systems.
Prior to joining Finnegan, Sameer contributed to engineering innovation and cost-saving initiatives across multiple industries. While serving as a repair process engineer intern with the largest airline maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) provider in North America, he authored engineering repair authorizations for novel aircraft engine defects, helping prevent unnecessary component scrapping and contributing to over a million dollars in cost savings. In this role, he performed detailed cyclic loading analyses on numerous aircraft engine components and developed data tracking tools to improve process visibility and decision-making across engineering teams. Sameer’s experience preparing formal engineering authorizations and supporting regulatory-compliant repair processes provides a strong foundation for work involving technical documentation and complex mechanical systems.
Within the robotics and manufacturing space, Sameer worked as a robotics intern with a German manufacturer of advanced powertrain systems for electric vehicles, where he architected and deployed a vision-guided robotic automation system that significantly reduced labor requirements and yielded substantial operational savings. He designed custom tooling for this system and performed finite element analysis (FEA) to ensure structural integrity under load conditions, and generated production-ready technical drawings using geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and design-for-manufacturing principles.
While pursuing his graduate degree, Sameer developed a nonlinear dynamic model for a tower crane’s payload motion using Lagrangian mechanics and MATLAB. He designed and implemented control algorithms on this crane to reduce oscillatory behavior, improving safety and precision in load handling environments. Sameer also designed and built complex electromechanical systems, including a teleoperated robotic arm integrating custom actuators, embedded controls, and computer vision, as well as a heads-up display navigation device that incorporates optical system design, vibration analysis, heat transfer considerations, and intuitive mechanisms for personalization.
