Richmond Van Winter applies his patent examination experience at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) as well as his hands-on clinical background to assist clients with patent application drafting and patent prosecution matters.
Prior to joining Finnegan, Richmond worked as a patent examiner at the USPTO in the medical imaging arts division, focusing on image-guided surgery, medical diagnostics, and image processing technologies. He reviewed patent applications to ensure conformity with legal requirements, searched prior art to determine novelty and non-obviousness, and drafted office actions responding to patent applicants.
Richmond previously worked as an application consultant for a pioneering digital medical technology company specializing in image-guided surgery and radiation therapy. In his role as an application consultant, Richmond provided on-site clinical guidance to physicians and hospital staff on the technologys optimal use. As an undergraduate, Richmond interned for a wearable technology startup company aiming to reduce the prevalence of traumatic brain injuries in sports.
