Associate
Keyi (Alvin) Xu has extensive experience serving clients both as outside counsel and in-house counsel. He has a broad intellectual property law practice, ranging from patent prosecution, patent portfolio management, and intellectual property rights licensing and transactions, to IP dispute resolutions, including patent, trademark, and trade secret litigation. Alvin assists clients in the fields of consumer products, home appliances, information systems, computer graphics, software, graphical user interfaces, and medical device technologies.
Alvin's patent prosecution practice includes deep experience in prosecuting U.S. design patents, specifically those associated with graphical user interface (GUI) for computers and smart devices. He also counsels clients in patent portfolio management and patent dispute resolution, particularly in the home appliance industry space.
Besides his patent practice, Alvin helps enforce trademark rights and copyrights as well as resolve trademark, copyright, and trade secret disputes specifically for Chinese clients.
Before joining Finnegan, Alvin worked for a Fortune 500 company as senior intellectual property counsel and for a New York-based law firm as an associate attorney. In both roles, he handled patent prosecution, intellectual property licensing and transactions, and litigation matters.
While in college and graduate school, Alvin focused his academic research on geographical information systems, triangulated irregular networks (TIN), and the finite element method (FEM).
