Juris Klavins counsels clients on the protection, enforcement, and monetization of their intellectual property (IP) assets, with an emphasis on trademark and unfair competition disputes in federal court as well as proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). His practice spans the full life cycle of brand protection—from strategic mark selection and clearance through enforcement, dispute resolution, and portfolio management.
Juris’ experience includes federal court litigation and TTAB oppositions and cancellations, including drafting pleadings, conducting discovery, and briefing dispositive motions. He also negotiates and drafts settlement, licensing, and assignment agreements; develops cease-and-desist and enforcement strategies; handles complex USPTO office actions; represents clients in Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy (UDRP) proceedings; and manages expungement matters.
Juris previously served as head of the trademark department at a boutique IP law firm. He advised multi-billion-dollar companies on global brand strategy, including adopting new marks and enforcing rights globally.
Prior to embarking on his legal career, Juris was an acclaimed professional cellist. He performed at international festivals and prestigious venues, including The Royal Albert Hall, Egmont Palace, and the Grand Hall of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.
