Patent Agent
Heather's patent prosecution practice involves drafting utility and design patent applications and prosecuting those applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and other patent offices. She has experience in a variety of technical areas, including medical devices, additive manufacturing, semiconductors, lithium-ion batteries, magnetic and electric circuits, electronic controllers, computer software, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, textiles, and business methods. In addition to her prosecution practice, Heather leverages her technical experience to craft freedom-to-operate, infringement, and invalidity analyses.
As an undergraduate at the University of Texas at Austin, Heather performed research with the Biomedical Engineering Department. Her research focused on human thermoregulation and heat transport, which involved evaluating cryotherapy-induced persistent vasoconstriction and the efficacy of selective thermal stimulation for therapeutic purposes. Heather also worked at a surgical implant company, assisting with the design and validation of orthopedic implants and instruments.
Through her studies, Heather gained experience in a variety of areas, including thin film mechanics, soft tissue mechanics, transport phenomena, and computational modeling of physiological systems. She has applied her varied experience to design, build, and optimize wearable devices that monitor various body biometrics, including heart rate, gait analytics, and sleep metrics. Heather also served as a teaching assistant for courses in engineering communications, engineering biomaterials, and molecular engineering.
