Technical Specialist
Ching-Ya (Gyan) Hsu focuses on patent preparation and prosecution in the electrical and computer technology areas, with extensive experience in international prosecution, particularly in Taiwan and China. His practice also involves legal opinions, including patentability, freedom-to-operate, and invalidity and infringement analysis.
Gyan is experienced in patent application drafting and prosecution in a variety of technology areas, including power electronics, wireless communications devices, computer hardware and software, video standards and codecs, memory controllers, processors, semiconductor devices, integrated circuit (IC) design, consumer electronics, unmanned aerial vehicles, and bicycle components. He also assists with patent litigation and opinion work.
Gyan holds a Chinese patent agent qualification certificate and is a registered Taiwan patent agent. Prior to joining Finnegan, he worked at a top-tier intellectual property law firm in Taiwan as a patent engineer, gaining experience in the practice of patent prosecution in the United States, China, and Taiwan.
During his graduate studies, Gyan's research focused on applications of power electronics in power systems and maximum power point tracking control strategies for wind energy conversion.
