Library Services Manager

The Washington DC office of Finnegan, one of the world’s leading and largest intellectual property law firms, is seeking a Library Services Manager to handle the daily oversight, supervision and long range planning and development of the firm’s law library. Headquartered in the Washington, DC office, this individual reports to the Practice Support Services Director, and manages staff members in the Washington, DC and Palo Alto, California offices.
Responsibilities include: utilizing knowledge of the library systems and management processes to develop, administer and assess library policies and procedures; utilizing knowledge of the legal profession, specifically intellectual property (IP) patent and trademark procurement and protection, to meet the specialized needs of the practice; ensuring quality responses to all research and information requests for partners, associates, and staff; developing and administering customized research solutions for a broad range of practice specific issues; supporting the marketing department by providing competitive business intelligence, research and data gathering services; strategically reviewing, updating and maintaining internally developed library resources including creating and maintaining the library Intranet site and planning, preparing and managing library budgets and financial resources.
Successful candidates must have a M.L.S. with at least ten years of law firm library research experience and 5 years of supervisory experience. Knowledge of standard office computer programs (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), demonstrated skill in on-line research (including Lexis, Westlaw and Dialog) and a demonstrated knowledge of the legal system and legal profession are required. Strong leadership skills, the ability to handle confidential and proprietary information, strong written and oral communication skills and experience collecting business and competitive intelligence for a professional services firm are integral to the position.
