Luke has substantial experience in various phases of litigation including motions practice, briefing, managing discovery, depositions, assisting technical experts, petitions for inter partes review (IPRs), appeals, and other strategic phases of litigation. He also develops invalidity and infringement positions for clients seeking to launch new products.
Luke has extensive patent prosecution experience ranging from managing large international patent portfolios to developing patent strategies for early-stage startup companies. He works with teams of attorneys at Finnegan to implement portfolio development strategies. Since joining Finnegan full time during law school, Luke has prosecuted over 200 patent applications. Luke helps clients succeed when dealing with complex issues on subject matter eligibility and crowded fields of prior art.
Luke has a wide range of technical expertise spanning biomedical physics, mathematics, microbiology, computer programming, environmental engineering, and public health. Prior to joining Finnegan, he worked as a faculty scientist at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and as the deputy director of the Johns Hopkins Water Institute. Luke developed and oversaw national scale mobile technology-based health monitoring programs in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. At Princeton, Luke's graduate dissertation research focused on biogeochemical reactions in the environment and their influence on contaminant transport. He was awarded numerous competitive research grants.
During his time in academia, Luke was an invited speaker at multiple conferences and panels around the United States.
