Justin R. Lowery
Associate
Justin Lowery focuses on patent litigation in district and appellate courts, and the preparation and prosecution of patent applications. He concentrates in all areas of information technology, including computer software, Internet services, database design, and business methods.
While in law school, Mr. Lowery worked at Finnegan as a summer associate. He has handled multiple patent applications at different stages of prosecution. His litigation practice has included many areas of pre-trial preparation, including conducting infringement and validity analyses, responding to discovery requests, drafting motions, taking and defending depositions, and work with expert witnesses. His appellate practice has included numerous Supreme Court petitions and briefs, as well as Federal Circuit casework.
Highlights
- Bilski v. Kappos (U.S. Sup. Ct.). Worked on this seminal patent law case, including assisting in drafting the successful petition for writ of certiorari, in planning the cert-stage amicus strategy, in drafting the ensuing merits and reply briefs, and in preparing for oral argument.
- Served on the editorial board of the Virginia Law Review, 2006-2008.
- Worked to help plan and draft multiple petitions for writ of certiorari, briefs in opposition to certiorari, and briefs on the merits for the United States Supreme Court as a member of the University of Virginia's Supreme Court Litigation Clinic.
