Troy E. Grabow
Partner
Troy Grabow has a broad range of experience in all aspects of patent law, including U.S. district court and appellate litigation, patent prosecution, and strategic counseling. At the district courts, Mr. Grabow represents clients in a wide range of technologies, including medical devices, drug dispensing systems, automotive technologies, hygiene products, decking products, and social networking sites. He has also successfully handled matters in other courts and venues, including interferences at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences, appeals at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, litigations at the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, and pro bono cases at the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.
In addition to his litigation practice, he oversees the patent portfolio of several companies, and handles all aspects of their intellectual property needs. His technical experience principally extends to mechanical and electromechanical devices, with a particular focus on medical devices, biotechnology equipment, automotive technologies, and electrical connectors.
Mr. Grabow speaks and participates in numerous panel discussions for the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) and other organizations.
Highlights
- Successfully defended decking manufacturer from multiple patent infringement suits, obtaining summary judgment of non-infringement at district court and multiple affirmances at the Federal Circuit.
- Represented manufacturer of military cargo transport structures at U.S. Court of Federal Claims, obtaining favorable monetary settlement from U.S. government.
- Medtronic Vascular, Inc. v. Advanced Cardiovascular Systems, Inc. (N.D. Cal.). Defended Abbott Labs in district court litigation involving coronary stents, obtaining favorable settlement.
- Handled several pro bono cases for military veterans involving claims for military benefits.
- Served as a law clerk to the Honorable Timothy B. Dyk, circuit judge at the Federal Circuit, 2000.
- Served as patent examiner at the USPTO focusing on mechanical applications in the fields of gearing, transmissions, and robotics, 1994-1998.
- Project engineer in Gas Turbine Division of General Electric Company, 1993-1994.
