The American Lawyer
WASHINGTON, DC—Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP is proud to announce that Donald R. Dunner has been honored with The American Lawyer 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award. Mr. Dunner was recognized as “one of the world’s leading experts on patent law.”
Mr. Dunner’s distinguished career is marked by numerous milestones. He was instrumental in the creation of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the only appellate level court with jurisdiction to hear patent case appeals. He participated in the drafting of the court’s rules and served as chairman of its Advisory Committee for the first ten years of the court's existence. Mr. Dunner has argued more than 165 appeals before the Federal Circuit—more than any other attorney in the United States. Some of Mr. Dunner’s most notable cases include the complete reversal of an $80 million jury verdict for Mattel’s Hot WheelsTM toys and the successful argument of the second largest ($290 million) patent verdict sustained on appeal in i4i v. Microsoft.
“This is an extraordinary and well deserved honor for Don,” said Finnegan managing partner James B. Monroe. “Don’s career and contributions to the field of patent law are unparalleled, and we are very proud to have such a distinguished leader as a colleague at Finnegan.”
“I am quite pleased to have The American Lawyer award me with this prestigious honor. To be recognized on this level for the work that I’ve done throughout my career is truly humbling,” said Mr. Dunner.
The American Lawyer’s Lifetime Achievement Award is in its 11th year. The award recipients will be featured in the September issue of The American Lawyer, and honored this fall at a dinner in New York City.
