Christine E. Lehman

Christine Lehman focuses on patent litigation in U.S. district courts and at the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). She represents clients before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and provides counseling on a range of patent matters.

Ms. Lehman has played both leading and supporting roles at trials and claim construction hearings involving a wide variety of technologies, including medical devices, semiconductors, satellite television, and business method patents. She also has extensive experience in all aspects of pretrial proceedings. As part of her client counseling practice, she advises clients on licensing and settlement issues, as well as patent procurement.

Prior to joining Finnegan, Ms. Lehman served an investigative attorney at the ITC. In this role, she lead investigations on a variety of semiconductor technologies, and one related to disposable cameras involving 15 patents and over 25 respondents.

Before working at the ITC, she spent three years working as an attorney with a large intellectual property law firm based in New York, where her practice included patent prosecution, client counseling, and district court litigation.

Highlights

  • In re Combination Motor and Transmission Systems and Devices, 337-TA-561 (ITC). Represented defendant Toyota in a patent infringement case that sought to exclude Toyota's hybrid vehicles from the United States. Solomon’s patent was declared invalid and not infringed by the administrative law judge and the full ITC.
  • Medinol v. Guidant (S.D.N.Y.). Represented Guidant in a patent infringement case involving coronary stents, which ended with a favorable settlement for defendant on the fourth day of jury deliberations.
  • In re Absorbent Garments, 337-TA-508 (ITC). Represented Tyco in a patent infringement case that sought to exclude infringing diapers from the United States. The case settled favorably the day before the trial was to begin.
  • Served as adjunct faculty member at Howard University School of Law, where she developed and taught a seminar on patent law policy with other members of the firm, 2004-2005.
  • Founding co-chair of the first intellectual property conference sponsored by Howard University School of Law's Institute for Intellectual Property and Social Justice, 2003.
  • Serves as chair of Finnegan's Pro Bono Committee.
