Charles H. Suh

Charles Suh practices both utility and design patent litigation before U.S. district courts and the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC).  He has participated in every aspect of district court and ITC litigation, including taking witness testimony at trial, taking and defending depositions, briefing claim construction, formulating litigation and pre-litigation strategy, drafting and arguing motions, and day-to-day case management. In particular, Mr. Suh focuses on various aspects of litigation involving Korean companies, such as managing discovery of evidentiary material written in Korean and preparation of Korean-speaking witnesses for deposition and trial.

In addition, Mr. Suh has significant experience in patent portfolio management, preparing patentability, validity, and infringement opinions, and preparing and prosecuting patent applications directed to technical areas such as semiconductor fabrication/packaging, electronics, computer hardware/software, and military tactical systems.

Mr. Suh frequently lectures in both English and Korean on a variety of patent litigation and prosecution topics, and works closely with the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), the Korea Invention Promotion Association (KIPA), and other governmental agencies and companies to provide and promote a better understanding of U.S. IP law and practice for Korean IP professionals.

  • Defended Hyundai Welding Company and Hyundai Welding Products, USA against Lincoln Electric in an ITC investigation involving importation of welding wire drums.
  • Represented LG Electronics against charges of patent infringement on various high-end refrigerators before the ITC.
  • Defended LG Electronics against charges of utility patent infringement on its high-performance washers before the W.D. Mich.
  • Represented the Coca-Cola Company against charges of utility patent infringement before the S.D. Ohio.
  • Defended Phicom Corporation against charges of utility patent infringement on its semiconductor probe card before the ITC and D. Ore.
  • Represented the Hillman Group against charges of design patent infringement on its address plaques before the S.D. Cal.
  • Served as an intelligence officer in the United States Army with the 10th Mountain Division and the 501st Military Intelligence Brigade, where he served as a host country advisor to the commander of U.S. military intelligence in Korea and a liaison officer to the Republic of Korea Army. Tours of duty included combat deployment to Haiti and Korea, 1993-1998.
