Naveen Modi

Naveen Modi practices all aspects of patent-related work, including district court and appellate litigation, client counseling, interferences, patent prosecution, and opinion work. He has conducted all types of discovery, drafted briefs, prepared and examined witnesses, and argued in court. His practice encompasses a range of technical areas, including medical devices, software, networking, business methods, semiconductor devices, and electronics.
Mr. Modi also teaches a course on Federal Circuit practice at George Mason University School of Law and has lectured nationally and internationally in seminars relating to patent procurement and enforcement. While in law school, he worked at Finnegan as a student associate, gaining significant experience in patent prosecution and client counseling.
Mr. Modi devotes a portion of his time to pro bono matters. He is currently representing an individual in his request for asylum before the Immigration Court.

- Represented Guidant in Medtronic, Inc. v. Guidant Corp., No. 03-848 (D. Del.) and Guidant Corp. v. St. Jude Medical, Inc., No. 04-0067 (D. Del.) (patent infringement cases involving medical devices).
- Represented Rambus Inc. in Perego v. Drehmel, No. 105,467 (Bd. Pat. App. & Int.) (patent interference involving semiconductor devices).
- Currently representing SAP in elcommerce.com, Inc. v. SAP AG, No. 07-383 (E.D. Tex.) (patent infringement case involving software products).
- Served as a law clerk to the Honorable Alvin Anthony Schall at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
- Worked as an engineer with Lockheed Martin Federal Systems, Raytheon Systems Company, and Hughes Aircraft.
- Edits, with other colleagues, the firm’s monthly newsletter, Last Month at the Federal Circuit.
- Member of the George Mason Law Review and served as a Writing Fellow while in law school.
- Teaches a course on Federal Circuit practice at George Mason University School of Law.
- Currently representing an individual in his request for asylum before the Immigration Court.
