Christopher T. Blackford


Chris Blackford is a registered patent attorney with more than a decade of experience litigating intellectual property cases. He focuses his practice on patent infringement actions before U.S. district courts, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Mr. Blackford has served as lead counsel, managed numerous complex IP disputes, and participated in multiple patent trials on behalf of multinational companies. His experience includes arguing motions before courts and taking witness testimony from both expert and fact witnesses.

Mr. Blackford draws on years of industry experience as a software and systems engineer for companies such as Texas Instruments, Raytheon, and Nokia. His cases have covered standard essential patents (SEPs) and spanned a wide range of technical subjects, including cybersecurity, smartphones, multimedia, computer architecture, power management, memory management, user interfaces, telecommunications, semiconductors, medical devices, consumer electronics, Blu-ray, and various Internet-related technologies.

Mr. Blackford also has experience with the use of post-grant proceedings in conjunction with litigation, including requests for reexamination and inter partes review (IPR).


  • Syneron Medical Ltd. v. Viora (E.D. Tex.). Represented plaintiff Syneron in district court case concerning aesthetic medical devices, resulting in settlement acknowledging infringement and validity.
  • Certain Digital Media Devices, 337-TA-882 (ITC). Represented LG Electronics in ITC action concerning certain media technologies in mobile telephones and televisions, home theater systems, Blu-ray disc players, and tablets. Following trial, all four asserted patents were found not infringed and/or invalid.
  • Stambler v. Ameriprise Financial, Inc. (E.D. Tex.). Represented Ameriprise against infringement allegations concerning certain secure fund transfer services.
  • Certain Electronic Devices with Communication Capabilities, 337-TA-808 (ITC). Represented HTC Corp. in ITC action involving certain user interface features in Apple's iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches.
  • BarTex v. FedEx (E.D. Tex., Fed. Cir.). Defended FedEx against charges of patent infringement concerning bar code technology, resulting in summary judgment of invalidity, which was affirmed on appeal.
  • Technology Patents, LLC v. Deutsche Telekom (D. Md., Fed. Cir., S. Ct.). Defended several foreign defendants against charges of infringement concerning paging technology, resulting in a dismissal, which was affirmed on appeal, with cert. denied.
  • Certain Portable Electronic Devices and Related Software, 337-TA-721 (ITC). Represented HTC Corp. in ITC action involving certain power management features in Apple's iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches.
  • LG Electronics v. Hitachi (N.D. Cal.). Represented LG Electronics in asserting patents concerning computer architecture technology.
  • Cisco v. Telcordia Technologies (E.D. Tex., D. Del.). Defended Telcordia Technologies against charges of patent infringement concerning telecommunications technology.
  • TGIP v. AT&T (E.D. Tex.). Defended IDT against charges of patent infringement concerning prepaid card technology.
  • Served as a judicial extern for the Honorable A. Joe Fish at the U.S. District Court for the N.D. Texas, 2004.
