Christopher T. Blackford

Chris Blackford practices all aspects of patent law, with a particular emphasis on patent litigation before U.S. district courts and the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). Mr. Blackford's litigation experience includes examining fact and expert witnesses at deposition and trial; assisting technical experts with preparation of expert reports; preparing Markman, summary judgment, and various post-trial motions; managing discovery; conducting pre-litigation investigations; and participating in settlement and mediation.

Mr. Blackford's experience, includes federal district courts in Texas, Delaware, California, Maryland, and New Jersey. He also has appellate experience before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Mr. Blackford has worked on cases involving smartphones, software, power management, telecommunications, semiconductors, circuit design, computer architecture, calling cards, bar codes, consumer appliances, and various Internet-related technologies.

Highlights

  • Certain Portable Electronic Devices and Related Software, 337-TA-721 (ITC). Represents HTC Corp. in an investigation involving importation of Apple’s iPhones, iPods, and iPads.
  • BarTex v. FedEx (E.D. Tex., Fed. Cir.). Defended FedEx against charges of patent infringement concerning bar code technology, resulting in a favorable claim construction and a finding of summary judgment of invalidity affirmed on appeal.
  • Technology Patents, LLC v. Deutsche Telekom (D. Md.). Defended several foreign defendants against charges of infringement concerning paging technology, resulting in dismissal and currently on appeal.
  • LG Electronics v. Hitachi (N.D. Cal.). Represented LG Electronics in asserting patents concerning computer architecture, resulting in settlement.
  • Cisco v. Telcordia Technologies (E.D. Tex., D. Del). Defended Telcordia Technologies against charges of patent infringement concerning telecommunications equipment, resulting in settlement.
  • TGIP v. AT&T (E.D. Tex.). Defended IDT against charges of patent infringement concerning calling card technology, resulting in settlement.
  • Served as a judicial extern for the Honorable A. Joe Fish at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, 2004.
  • Worked as a software engineer for Nokia Mobile Phones Research & Development, designing, coding, and globally implementing test procedures for automated name dialing software, 1999-2001.
  • Served as a systems engineer at Texas Instruments and Raytheon, maintaining parts-components and quality testing forward looking infrared technologies, 1997-1998.
