Aaron Capron leads Finnegan’s patent office practice and co-leads the firm’s AI tech tools committee. He advises clients on strategies directed to patent portfolio development, client counseling, product clearances, and post-grant proceedings. Aaron's practice spans a wide range of cutting-edge technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductor manufacturing, quantum computing, medical devices, digital health, and video coding, among others.

A former patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Aaron brings a distinct combination of prosecution insight and litigation experience. He has served as co-lead counsel in numerous post-grant proceedings—including one of the earliest instituted under the America Invents Act (AIA)—and has advised on standard-essential patents (SEPs) in video coding and telecommunications. In recognition of his technical excellence and strategic leadership, The Daily Journal named Aaron one of California’s Top Intellectual Property Lawyers. He currently manages U.S. patent portfolios for two of Time magazine’s most influential companies of 2025, helping them navigate complex IP landscapes with precision and foresight.

For his deep commitment to mentorship and professional development, Aaron was named a finalist for Law.com’s California Mentor of the Year award. He devotes time to pro bono work as well, representing military veterans before the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit through Finnegan’s Veterans Assistance Program.
